Hi, I'm new to the program and am having problems with the install.  I downloaded the installation jar file and it is associated with WinRAR by default.  I moved it into the Java/bin directory in WinXP to avoid any path issues and tried to invoke it via commandline and by dragging the installer on top of java.exe, javaws.exe and javaw.exe

The most verbose output results in the error output from javaws.exe:

GENERAL:
"An error occurred while launching/running the application.

Category: Invalid Argument Error

Could not load file/URL specified: C:\DOCUME~1\ADAMBR~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\javaws4"

EXCEPTION:
CouldNotLoadArgumentException[ Could not load file/URL specified: C:\DOCUME~1\ADAMBR~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\javaws4]
    at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.javaws.Main.main(Unknown Source)

WRAPPED EXCEPTION:
java.io.IOException: File too large
    at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.javaws.Main.main(Unknown Source)

 Can anyone advise on how to resolve this? 

I am running WinXP Pro SP2, latest patches applied.  Java is JRE 1.5.0_06

I haven't seen this problem before. Have you tried right-clicking the jar file and selecting "open with" and then selecting "choose program...", then check the "Always use selected program...", and choose Java?

If that doesn't work, it might be that the file was corrupted during download. Try downloading it again and see if it will work.

If none of the above resolves the problem, please let me know.

Thanks for your speedy response.  I tried both the "Open With..." trick and downloading a fresh copy of the jar installer without success.

I can open the jar with WinRar and see the files that reside within the jar.  Is there a commandline syntax that I should try from a command shell that might be more helpful?

If you have any other ideas, please advise.  If you're too busy to deal with my issue, I completely understand and appreciate the time that you've spent on this so far.

If you want to try it from the command line, open a command window, then CD to the directory that contains the installation jar file. For example,

cd "c:\myDownloads"

then, type in:

java -jar installStatistics101.jar

Wait a few seconds for java to load. If all works as it should, a small dialog box will appear letting you select a language that the installer will use in its interaction with you. Select your language and follow the installer's directions.
